We scanned our John Deere 950 tractor manual so we could call it up on a smart phone. If it helps other users of this lovely old tractor, for which there is very poor documentation online, especially documentation that works on a smart phone while you are out working on the tractor, enjoy!
We will add the text under the photos as time permits so it is easier to find where issues are located.

Safety
Operate Tractor Safely
Never allow riders on the tractor.
Slow down for hillsides, rough ground, and sharp turns. Couple the brake pedals together before driving at transport speeds.
To avoid exhaust gas hazards, never run the engine in a closed building.
Avoid Tip-Overs
If your tractor is equipped with a Roll-Gard, use the seat belt under almost all operating conditions.
Use of seat belt is not recommended for tractors without a rollover protective device.
Avoid holes, ditches, etc. which may cause the tractor to tip, especially on hillsides.
Never drive near the edge of a gully or steep embankment. It might cave in.
Driving forward out of a ditch or mired condition or up a steep slope could cause tractor to tip over rearward. Back out of these situations if possible.
Hitch towed loads only to the drawbar. When using a chain, take up the slack slowly.
Handle Chemicals Properly
When using agricultural chemicals, follow the instructions given in the implement operator’s manual and those given by the chemical manufacturer.
Avoid Exhaust Fumes
Do not operate engine inside a closed building.
If a Roll-Gard canopy is installed, also install an exhaust extension.
A horizontal exhaust system is available for applications where a vertical exhaust would be in the way. See your John Deere dealer.
Your John Deere 950 Operator’s Manual is very useful. Like you said it is really not easy to find good information about this old one online. My question is , is it possible to put online eventually the other section of your book, page 60 and over? Thank you very much and I wish you the best.
We finally got the rest of the pages up. Enjoy!
thank you for posting this manual
You are very welcome! I find it helpful when I am outside, trying to figure something out about my 950 compact utility tractor and I’ve left the manual inside.I can still use the smartphone.
Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Good Morning,
Thank you so much for this information! I just bought a 950 that needs the engine rebuilt. Do you know a source to buy rings, pistons, etc. from that you could refer me to? Also, is it possible to download the whole manual at once instead of individual pages?
Thanks Again and Happy New Year!
Jim

Over at https://www.tractorforum.com we have a section called MANUALS. There, we have the JD 850/950/1050 and the twin siblings of Yanmar YM2500 and YM2610. Plus, the power steering manual and the Power-Shift as well. These are in downloadable PDF. 🙂
Thanks so much for scanning the JD 850/950 manual. I have a 1986 JD 950. This information has really helped me with the maintenance, repairs and just getting to know the tractor. All the best!

how do I get a copy of the john deere 850 operators manual?
As of mid-Spring 2021, John Deere now offers all of their Operations Manuals On-Line in PDF format for FREE in English, French and Spanish.
https://techpubs.deere.com/en-US/Search/Equipment
Type in 850 or 950 or 1050 or any other JD machine. In the results pick PDF for FREE download. CD/DVD and print books still cost money. Makes sense really.
Why do I mention this? Because the older original manuals have errors and the newer manuals have updates due to obsolete info. Sure, this page is alright, but it’s now incomplete.
