Cindy, one of our clients, uncovered this large heart in the shavings pile while loading a wheelbarrow for bedding her horse’s stall. We are clueless. It appears to have been cleanly excised, and, as you can see from Cindy’s Facebook-post photo, is about the size of her hand. Did a scavenger animal hide this? Did something get poached nearby? Or did somebody come home from hunting, butcher something, and let an animal take the leavings? A creep’s idea of fun? Ideas and possible species identification welcome. The heart was placed on a fence post and has since disappeared. Gak. (Thanks to Andi for the other photos.)
